As a youth, Dr. Simon was mentored by a friend of the family’s, a successful dentist with a love of photography. When Dr. Simon was a junior in high school, his mentor was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. During one visit, he asked his mentor, “Do you like being a dentist?” The man replied passionately, “I love being a dentist,” and continued to work until he was too ill to do so. This made a strong impression on Dr. Simon. Ultimately, it inspired him not only to become a dentist, but also a person with passion for life, and compassion for others.
After graduating from the University of Colorado School of Dentistry, Dr. Simon had the opportunity to be affiliated with practices in Boulder, Niwot and Denver. Dr. Simon’s unique approach evolved from his exposure to the diverse approaches to serving the needs of patients of varied socioeconomic backgrounds. These experiences allowed him to create a practice where he is uniquely equipped to address the needs of every patient.
Dr. Simon is passionate in pursuing excellence in his craft, and reads continually to stay abreast of the latest advances. He and dentist colleagues gather regularly as a study club to review cases. Dr. Simon has also attended continuing education for cosmetic, dental implants and occlusion-based dentistry. Many of these studies have been with dentists from the Pankey Institute, whose philosophies are consistent with his own. What Dr. Simon enjoys most about being a dentist is that he can be involved in the progression of people’s lives. He works with his patients over the course of many years, during which time they earn degrees, get married, start families, and achieve dreams. No other profession affords that opportunity.
Dr. Simon approaches his outside pursuits in the same way he approaches dentistry – with immense passion for knowledge, and for excellence. As a photographer, he observes the compelling images in the world around him, and captures them with his camera. As a skier, he escapes to the slopes on any given winter weekend. As a cyclist, he traverses mountain slopes, dirt trails and paved roads in pursuit of freedom. As a culinary artist, he goes to the extreme in preparing exceptional meals for friends and family. After retiring from dentistry, Dr. Simon may very well pursue his dream of opening a restaurant that serves the perfect burger.
Most recently, Dr. Simon has relished spending time with his nephew Wiley and niece B.B., the children of his brother Jon – who is also a dentist. Perhaps, inspired through the mentorship of their father and uncle, they will one day become dentists with passion for life, and compassion for others.
